HoYoverse has announced the next update in its action game Zenless Zone Zero.

Zenless Zone Zero’s version 1.7 update, called Bury Your Tears With The Past, will be out on 23 April (GMT+8). This update will be the last one for the game’s Season 1 content and will be the grand finale to the story involving Hugo and Vivian.

In this upcoming version, players will finally reveal the long-sought truth behind the Sacrifice crisis, delve into Vivian’s past and unravel Hugo’s mysterious demise. Both belonging to The Mockingbird faction, Vivian, an Ether Anomaly Agent, and Hugo, an Ice Attack Agent, will be featured in the banners alongside the return of Jane Doe and Lighter.

What’s next for Zenless Zone Zero & Season 2?

According to recent developer showcases, the game’s Season 2 narrative will dig deeper into character development and explore complex relationships.

Boss fights in Season 2 will be more interactive. The developers will be revisiting parry mechanics like Blade Clash and enhancing boss abilities that allow player counters or responses. They aim to balance difficulty across different player skill levels.

Old characters will be getting reworks and even full-on changes to their skills, to be on the same level with newer characters.

QoL-wise, players do not need to head to Random Play and interact with the HDD to head into Hollow missions.

The next season will also feature a new character named Yi Xuan who will help the Proxy duo Wise and Belle with their dormant powers. As such she will be a very important character in ZZZ’s story. She’s the well-endowed woman on the left in the screenshot below.

Speaking of new characters & factions, the rest of Obol Squad (Soldier 11 and Trigger’s team) will be making their official appearance in Season 2. Another new and highly-anticipated faction named Angels of Delusions will be appearing in Season 2.
