HoYoverse Teases New Pokemon Game Titled Honkai

The HoYoverse is not done taking old ideas and turning them into lucrative free-to-play games.

MiHoyo, the company that made bank off its hybrid open-world Breath of the Wild clone Genshin Impact and space-faring Japanese role-playing game Honkai Star Rail has teased a new game during its Honkai Star Rail 2nd Anniversary 2025 in Shanghai. And it’s teasing a monster mechanic not unlike the Pokemon series from GameFreak and Pokemon Company.

The game is called a “Brand New Honkai Game” with a big announcement coming soon, most likely for either the upcoming ChinaJoy gaming event or even Tokyo Game Show 2025. From the trailer, it looks like two characters from MiHoyo’s games, Kiana from Honkai Impact 3rd and Blade from Honkai Star Rail are fighting each other using pocket monsters.

MiHoyo has also filed trademarks for the title Honkai: Nexus Anima in USA, Europe, and Korea. Furthermore, a new website and Twitter accounts have been registered and are a variation of Honkai: Nexus Anima like @HonkaiNA, @HonkaiNA_TH, @HonkaiNA_ID, and so forth. Looks like MiHoyo will be making a bigger Southeast Asian presence with its new game, given the Thailand and Indonesia shorthand for the X handles.
