[Rumor] Resident Evil 9 Reveal Slated For Summer Game Fest 2025

The rumor mill is buzzing again regarding Capcom’s next survival horror title.

Resident Evil 9, the long-awaited sequel to past games Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake, might be revealed in full during this weekend’s Summer Game Fest livestream this Saturday. Here’s what we know (via X’s MBG and Dusk Golem, the latter survival horror insider who is known for revealing new RE games pre-announcement).

• The upcoming game will star Leon S. Kennedy, and may have him team up with series veteran Jill Valentine.
• The title will be the final trilogy in the Leon saga, with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 being the previous two games.
• The game will be in a third-person perspective, being a “reinvention” of the series and will not play like any other RE.
• The game will be a good blend of horror and action, with a really strong gothic and “witchy” setting.
• RE9 will also be a game that wraps up the current story arc, but also be open-ended and introduce new beginnings for more RE follow-up games. Capcom wants to have each game be unique and not be tied together by numbers and legacy titles.
• The title might take place in a Southeast Asian region, perhaps a city/rural village area hybrid similar to Singapore. 
• The game will be out in 2026, perhaps in the early part of next year if it’s anything like past RE game releases.

In any case, it’s high time survival horror game fans get their dose of triple-A gaming from Capcom via the long-standing RE franchise.
