Sony Interactive Entertainment Is Suing Tencent For Its Robot Dinosaur Game
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but sometimes it can get too far.
Sony Interactive Entertainment is suing Tencent for its upcoming game Light of Motiram. For those who aren’t sure why, that’s because Light of Motiram allegedly bears a lot of similarity to Sony and PlayStation-exclusive action-adventure series Horizon (Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West). The lawsuit was filed in California federal court, alleging that Tencent is ripping off its Horizon games via Light of Motiram (via Reuters).
The lawsuit states that Light of Motiram is a slavish clone that features identical gameplay, story themes, and artistic elements to Horizon. SIE also stated that it declined an offer from Tencent to collaborate on a new Horizon game back in 2024. Furthermore, SIE asked the court for an unspecified amount in monetary damage and also blocking Tencent from violating its intellectual property rights.
Despite this, Tencent stated that Light of Motriam will be releasing on PlayStation 5, suggesting that the company has no issues with the game being too similar to Horizon. At least, that was back in 2024 so perhaps they changed their minds this year.
