Sagat Returns With Tiger Attacks Inbound Via New Street Fighter 6 Gameplay Trailer
The Emperor of Muay Thai is back in part 6!
Street Fighter 6 will bring back Sagat, the Tiger Shot king and Muay Thai kicks master on 5th August, so here’s a ton of new gameplay featuring the one true tall-as-hell king of footsie-based gameplay & zoning.
“First appearing in the original Street Fighter as the main antagonist before becoming playable in Street Fighter 2: Champion Edition. Sagat has retreated to the mountains to live out his days in peace with his tiger Willa Maiu. That is until M. Bison returns with only the feeling that Sagat used to obey him. M. Bison then finds Sagat, hoping to goad the emperor into serving him once again.”
Sagat still retains his trademark Tiger Shot (High and Low), Tiger Knee, and Tiger Uppercut. The latter anti-air can be charged up to make it stronger and have an additional follow-up cinematic attack.
His new move in SF6 is Tiger Nexus, a knee strike that has three different follow-up kicks.
The first is Mighty Tiger, an overhead that hits crouching opponents. The second is Greedy Tiger, which makes Sagat plus on block. This move does miss crouching opponents though. Finally, Nova Tiger hits both standing and crouching opponents and launches enemies in the air. It’s also plus on block. However, light and medium Tiger Nexus will not combo into Nova Tiger.
His level 1 Super is Tiger Cannon, a super-fast and multi-hitting version of Tiger Shot. You can chain this from an OD Tiger Shot or Tiger Nexus to Nova Tiger.
Level 2 is Savage Tiger, which makes Sagat leap forward and can be followed up with four moves. First up is Savage Tiger Raid, which has the highest damage of all the options. Second is Savage Tiger Zenith which launches the opponent in the air and can be followed up with more attacks.
Third is Savage Tiger Pendulum, which allows Sagat to switch places with his opponent. Finally, there’s Savage Tiger Stomp, which leaves Sagat closest to the enemy.
Sagat’s Level 3 Super Art is Tiger Vanquisher, filled with deadly kicks and a finisher uppercut. Guess Capcom thought Tiger Genocide wasn’t an appropriate name for a Super this time around.
Having this tall beast of a fighter coming back in Street Fighter 6 is great and all, but the real threat is Modern Controls Sagat, where one button lets you spam High and Low Tiger Shots all day until you’re blue in the face. His patented Heavy Kick is back and still juggles like a mofo, triggering base SF4 flashbacks of HK to Tiger Destruction for massive damage. Coupled with SF6’s Drive Rush mechanics, we’ll be seeing more burst damage nonsense from the Muay Thai master.
Sagat will be available for purchase in Street Fighter 6 on 5th August, along with his stage Proud Spire in Thailand.
