Nintendo’s Best-Selling Games Are Mario Kart 8 And Animal Crossing
Nintendo just released its latest fiscal year earnings report for its FY3/2021 Q4 period. Basically, we know what the top-selling game is from the Big N as of 31st March, 2021.
The top-selling games are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizon. Both these games sold over 30 million units each.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Pokémon Sword & Shield, and Super Mario Odyssey have each sold over 20 million units. 36 titles were released on the Nintendo Switch between 1st April, 2020 and 31st March 2021; all of them sold over 1 million units on the console.
2020 has been great for the House of Mario, as the company has reported a revenue of US$16.59 billion and operating profits of US$6.04 billion; substantial upgrades since the last few fiscal years of the company. The key to Nintendo’s fiscal success (among many) is basically porting its Nintendo Wii U games over to the Nintendo Switch.
For example, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury sold 4 million units in its first six weeks. Not many folks bought the Wii U, which means these ex-Wii U games are considered brand new by the public between April 2020 and March 2021.
Despite the appearances of next-gen consoles, Nintendo Switch is still riding strong thanks to its plethora of games and upgraded Wii U game ports. Goes to show that games still matter regardless of how powerful your console is. What’s the point of buying a scarce next-gen console when there aren’t any new and existing games to play on it?
