Tales Down Below Is An Upcoming Malaysian-Made Comedy About The Southeast Asian Undead

If you think your spooky-but-funny animated sitcom needs some reimagined Asian and Western folklore creatures, look no further than Tales Down Below.

Currently making the rounds at this year’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival, the show is about best buds Zack and Sam who are two undead skeletons embarking on fantastical adventures in the world of Dawn Below. Dawn Below is where all the spirits and folklore creatures reside, so expect supernatural hijinxes targeted at tweens and families.

“A hybrid of Western and Asian folklore, Tales Down Below is about bringing [the creators’] South East Asian stories about things that go bump in the night, throwing them onto the center-stage with well-established spooky archetypes and saying ‘Yes, our stories and our folklore are equally as weird, equally as engaging, and equally as entertaining’.”

The show’s trailer is below (and on this link), if you’re curious. The clip portrays Zack and Sam up to some hijinx, a Hungry Ghost Festival that needs some freshening up, and some guy’s likeness sculpted using durian insides. Yeah, it went there.
