Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD Steam Will Still Be Playable After September Despite Current Delisting Issues

After the open-world action adventure title Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD was on sale for 75% on Steam, Ubisoft had the game removed. The game right now has this on its Steam listing: “this title will not be accessible following September 1st, 2022”.

Understandably, people are upset that Ubisoft is robbing people of their money with this alleged bait and switch. Ubisoft has stated publicly that owners of Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD will still retain its single-player mode, though its online components will not get support from 1st September onward. Here’s a statement from the company (via Polygon):

“As stated in our support article, only DLCs and online features will be affected by the upcoming decommissioning. Current owners of those games will still be able to access, play or redownload them.

Our teams are working with our partners to update this information across all storefronts and are also assessing all available options for players who will be impacted when these games’ online services are decommissioned on September 1st, 2022. It has always been our intention to do everything in our power to allow those legacy titles to remain available in the best possible conditions for players, and this is what we are working towards.”

Ubisoft is currently shutting down online services for many of its games. This is normal since most of their catalogue have been around for more than 10 years with their online components still running and companies need to cut costs for these and pull the plug eventually. These games include Driver San Francisco, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Rayman Legends, Anno 2070, and the original versions of Far Cry 3 and Assassin’s Creed 2.
