The First-Ever Pokémon UNITE Malaysia Open Esports Tournament Boasts A $US20,000 Prize Pool

It’s yet another exciting time for both esports and Pokémon fans in Malaysia now that things are opening up again, especially with the 1st year anniversary of the franchise’s mobile entry Pokemon UNITE. At a press conference, Telco company Yoodo announced that Malaysia’s first Pokémon UNITE tournament is coming this September. The winning team will be rewarded a ginormous prize pool of $US20,000 in the finals.

Yoodo, Malaysia’s first customizable and digital mobile service, has teamed up with The Pokémon Company for their first ever Pokémon UNITE Open tournament in Malaysia, making it yet another feat for being the first (among many other of their ‘first’) to achieve this milestone. The partnership with The Pokémon Company further establishes its position and goal as the leader of esports in the Malaysian telco industry. Celebrating its one-year anniversary since launch, this event also concurrently leverages The Pokemon Company its place in big gaming partnerships.

Chow Tuck Mun, Head of Yoodo said:

“We are of course thrilled to be partnering with the globally renowned – The Pokémon Company. Most of us grew up with Pikachu and Charmander, and for Yoodo to be the first Malaysian telco associated with such a nostalgic worldwide phenomenon is ground-breaking for us.

We hope that the upcoming tournament will provide a platform for more Malaysian esports players to shine, furthering our dedication to supporting talents from the grassroots.”

He also announced the launch of the Pokémon UNITE data Add-On into Yoodo’s library for Yoodo users, granting them access to a 20GB boost of data whenever needed.

Pokémon trainers may register for the Pokémon UNITE Malaysia Open 2022  from 27 July until 30 August 2022, with the event happening on 10 September 2022.

So, do you have what it takes to be the best Pokémon trainer and team that no one ever was? Only one way to find out, aspiring trainers; go for it.
