A Live-Action Death Stranding Movie Is In The Works

Hideo Kojima’s Kojima Productions has partnered with Barbarian EP Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios to develop and produce a live-action Death Stranding movie adaptation. The film is fully financed by Hammerstone and will be produced by Kojima and Lebovici, with Kojima Productions US and Allan Ungar serving as executive producers.

According to the report from Deadline, the Death Stranding movie will introduce new elements and characters within the Death Stranding universe. However, there is no writer or director attached to the project yet.

Kojima said:

“I couldn’t be more excited about this new partnership with Hammerstone Studios. This is a pivotal moment for the franchise and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with them in bringing DEATH STRANDING to the big screen.”

Lebovici said:

“We are thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to partner with brilliant and iconic Hideo Kojima on his first film adaptation. Unlike other big budget tentpole video game adaptations, this will be something far more intimate and grounded. Our goal is to redefine what a video game adaptation could be when you have creative and artistic freedom. This film will be an authentic “Hideo Kojima” production.”

Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios has financed, developed and produced independent films across all genres, including the 20th Century Studios horror film Barbarian and Bill & Ted Face The Music.

During the recent The Game Awards 2022, Hideo Kojima officially revealed Death Stranding 2, the sequel to 2019’s Death Stranding. It’s being developed for the PS5.
