X-Files Reboot In The Works From Black Panther Director, Says Original Series Creator

It looks like the next big project for Ryan Coogler (best known for directing both Black Panther and Black Panther Wakanda Forever, as well as the first Creed movie) will be a reboot of the iconic The X-Files TV series.

This news came from original The X-Files creator Chris Carter himself, who made the statement during an interview with “On The Coast with Gloria Macarenko” to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The X-Files.

During the interview, Carter said:

“I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount ‘The X-Files’ with a diverse cast. So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory.”

Reps for Coogler did not immediately respond to Variety‘s request for comment. 20th Television, the studio behind the original series, declined to comment.

20th Century Television, the studio that owns the rights to The X-Files, has yet to officially announce a new The X-Files series. This is probably because the reboot is still in the very early stages of development. Coogler himself is currently in a five-year overall deal with Walt Disney Television, which owns 20th Century Television.

The X-Files starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. It originally aired on Fox from 1993 to 2001 for nine seasons before being revived for two more seasons in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

In the meantime, let’s indulge in nostalgia and listen to the legendary X-Files theme again:
