Philippines Firms Their Regional Grip On MLBB By Dominating Malaysia At SEA Games 2023

The Philippines has done it again! The country’s representatives in this year’s Men’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) tournament, Bren Esports, snagged their third-straight gold medal at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games’ Esports event.

Check out the schedule & results!

They swept Malaysia in the grand finals on Sunday (14 May) with a 3-0 score. It’s worth noting that the Filipino and Malaysian teams faced off before in the group stage, where Malaysia finished first and the Philippines took second place with a 3-1 record. But the Filipino squad was able to exact revenge in the playoffs and the grand finals.

Bren Esports’ team members are David “FlapTzy” Canon, Michael Angelo “KyleTzy” Sayson, Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel, Marco “Super Marco” Requitano, and Vincent “Pandora” Unigo. On the other hand, the Malaysian team was made up of players from different teams.

KyleTzy was named the game MVP in the first two matches while Super Marco was chosen in the third game. The Philippines ended the 2023 SEA Games Esports event with the highest medal count of five, including gold medals in League of Legends: Wild Rift and Men’s MLBB. They also have a silver medal for Women’s MLBB and bronze medals for VALORANT and Crossfire.

The Philippines’ dominance in Men’s MLBB dates back to the first-ever SEA Games Esports tournament in 2019, which they hosted. The inaugural event was won by a mixed roster of players from different teams while the country’s second gold medal in 2022 was won by players from Blacklist International, who were the reigning MLBB world champions at the time. ECHO, another Filipino team, is the reigning champion after defeating Blacklist International in the M4 World Championship in January.

The Philippines will have the chance to continue their streak as the M5 World Championship is set to be held in their home soil this coming December.
