Friday The 13th: The Game Has One Last Surprise In Its Final Update

Friday the 13th: The Game, an asymmetric horror multiplayer game, will be delisted after 31 December 2023 due to an expiring license, meaning it will no longer be available for purchase in physical or digital formats.

Earlier this week, publisher Gun Media announced the game’s final update, slated to launch on 6 July 2023. The update offers players access to 30 Legendary Perks (players looking to clean up any remaining trophies or achievements won’t have to undertake a long grind before the servers shut down), access to all of the kills from the base game, and many more. The team confirmed this was to reduce dependence on database servers.

Wes Keltner, CEO of Gun Media said in a tweet that the move was “the best way we knew how to give you, the players, the best experience and a heartfelt thank you, as we move towards an inevitable goodbye.”

Here’s a breakdown of the final patch notes:

  • 30 Legendary Perks
  • Awarded to All
  • Most Popular Perks
  • No Negative Effects
  • All Best Roll Possible
  • All Players: Level 150
  • All Kills Unlocked
  • All Challenged Skulls Unlocked
  • No XP/CP Earned
  • No Matchmaking Functionality Lost

While Friday the 13th: The Game closing may disappoint players seeking an alternative multiplayer horror game, Gun Media is doing its best to make sure players get the most out of it before being removed from digital storefronts. The game has permanently reduced its price to US$ 4.99/ RM13.99 across all platforms and accompanying DLC for US$0.99/RM3.00 each.

Originally released in 2017, Friday the 13th: The Game is based on the 1980s slasher franchise of the same name. It is a semi-open world third-person survival horror game developed by IllFonic in which players try to survive a night at Camp Crystal Lake in order to defeat the serial killer, Jason Vorhees. One player controls Jason Voorhees, while the remaining 7 players control camp counsellors at Crystal Lake.

After the game was released, IllFonic was forced to suspend production across the entire franchise as a result of a bitter lawsuit over the Friday the 13th IP.

Friday the 13th: The Game is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
