Netflix’s TV Cloud Gaming Beta Takes Off
By Lewis "lickety" Larcombe|August 15, 2023|0 Comment
Netflix has just dropped a cool new feature for some lucky folks in the UK and Canada – their cloud gaming service. It’s kind of like a sneak peek since they’re still testing the waters with it. Right now, you can hop on this gaming train if you’re one of the chosen few, and it works on specific TVs. But hold up, if you’re a PC or Mac person, don’t feel left out – the service is making its way to your world real soon through Netflix’s website using browsers that are down with it.
They’ve already got a couple of games lined up for this beta test party. There’s this in-house game called Oxenfree from the Cool Cats at Night School Studio, and then there’s Mining Adventure, a game by Molehew that’s all about snagging gems in an arcade-style setup. Now, get this – you won’t be needing any fancy controllers for these games on TV; your trusty smartphone will do the trick. But if you’re all about that keyboard and mouse life, don’t fret – on PC and Mac, you’re good to go.
So, here’s the scoop on the devices that are in on the action: Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast with Google TV, LG TVs, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku gadgets, Samsung’s smart TVs, and Walmart ONN. And don’t think they’re stopping there – more devices are hopping on board soon!
According to Mike Verdu, the big shot over at Netflix Games, they’ve been cooking up this gaming goodness since 2021 when they first introduced mobile games on Netflix. And their mission? Well, it’s all about making gaming a blast for everyone. They’re super jazzed about bringing out the fun for their members with a service that’s easy to get into and works like a charm.
And here’s the kicker – Netflix isn’t stopping with just this. Nope, they’re cooking up a top-tier, original game over in sunny California. They’ve set up shop there, led by Chacko Sonny, who knows his stuff from his days as the big boss on Overwatch. And they’ve got some other rockstars on their team, too, like Joseph Staten, who used to be a big deal at Halo, and Raf Grassetti, the artistic genius from God of War’s studio. So, Netflix is levelling up in the gaming world, and they’re all about spreading some good vibes to their members.
