New Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Cinematic Trailer Drops Alongside Idris Elba Videos

In the latest Night City Wire livestream that took place on Thursday, CD Projekt RED gave us a sneak peek into the world of Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty with a brand-new CGI trailer.

This one’s a bit of a time warp, taking us seven years back before all the expansion drama unfolds. Meet Solomon Reed, brought to life by the charismatic Idris Elba, playing the role of a NUSA agent bidding farewell to Night City. But hold on to your cyber-enhanced hats, because this isn’t your run-of-the-mill farewell.

Things take a nasty turn for Reed as he’s blindsided by betrayal, and his once-trusty apprentice, Song So Mi, or as she’s known in the underworld, Songbird, leaves him for dead. And what’s her motive for this dastardly act? Well, that’s shrouded in mystery for now.

Fast forward seven years, and we’re on the same wild spaceflight as Songbird, this time rubbing shoulders with none other than NUSA president Rosalind Myers. But this joyride hits a turbulent patch, leading to a crash landing in the notorious Dogtown.

You can bet your last eddy that the rest of this tale is nothing short of history in the making. Reed’s back in action, and his mission? To rescue Myers. But where does So Mi fit into all of this? Did she have a hand in the spaceflight nosedive? We’ll have to keep our optic implants peeled for answers as time unfolds this twisted saga.

Mark your calendars for 26 September because that’s when this game-changer drops, and it’s not just another run-of-the-mill expansion. CD Projekt is promising a complete overhaul of the Cyberpunk 2077 experience, all for the modest price of US$30 or £25.

You got a taste of what’s coming at Gamescom Opening Night Live, where Gameplay Designer Yulia Pryimak showed off some of the new features, including sweet vehicle combat.

Some of these fresh features from Phantom Liberty will make their way into the base game as part of Update 2.0. And the best part? This update will roll out on September 21 for all you current-gen console and PC players.

If you’re wondering why CD Projekt is sticking to just one expansion, they’ve explained that it’s all about the tech shift to Unreal Engine development.
