Activision Maps Out The Next Call Of Duty’s Until 2027

Activision’s got the Call of Duty franchise all mapped out for several years to come! Yeah, you heard it right from the horse’s mouth, Activision president Rob Kostich told all during a chat with GamesBeat about the first 20 years of Call of Duty and where it might be headed.

Check Out The New Warzone Map

Now, if you’ve been keeping up with this gaming juggernaut, you’ll know it’s been dropping a new Call of Duty game every single year for the past two decades. That’s some serious commitment. And in that time, the series has gone all over the place, timeline-wise.

Starting out with World War II, it was kinda like, “Hello, gaming world, here we are!” But the real turning point came with the Modern Warfare series – that’s when things really blew up. And don’t get me started on the Black Ops games, diving into the Cold War and near-future settings. Then there was that wild ride to the far future with Infinite Warfare.

Now, Kostich mentioned they’ve learned a thing or two from all these iterations. Turns out, the sweet spot seems to be in contemporary or near-future settings. So, here’s the scoop: they’re always planning, always looking ahead. Right now, they’ve got the next few games plotted out all the way through ’27!

So what’s ahead?

But it’s not just about throwing darts at a timeline. They’ve realized it’s all about giving players fresh and differentiated experiences. You know, new kinds of fun. And it’s not just about where you are in history; the weaponry plays a huge role in this Call of Duty equation.

When you’re stuck in the past like World War II, there’s not much room to get crazy with weapons and still keep things somewhat realistic, which is a big deal for Call of Duty. And let’s not forget, the fans have a say in what’s what.

Now, when you get into the modern era, it’s like a playground of possibilities. And if you venture into the future, well, the sky’s the limit when it comes to weaponry. That’s where the Black Ops games come into play, all that secret stuff and creative freedom – it’s like a party for game developers!

Oh, and speaking of developers, there’s an army of about 3,000 of them hard at work on Call of Duty from all of Activision’s core studios. That’s some serious firepower!

So, what’s next in this Call of Duty odyssey? Well, Activision’s got some big reveals lined up, including a livestream event called Call of Duty: Next happening on 5 October. They’re gonna dish out the deets on Modern Warfare III’s multiplayer modes and, brace yourself, Zombies. Plus, there’s a new Warzone map and even a Warzone Mobile in the works!

And as if that’s not enough, get ready for Modern Warfare III dropping on 10 November, a direct follow-up to the hit Modern Warfare II. Sledgehammer’s leading the charge on that one, with Infinity Ward and Treyarch in on the action too.

And here’s a juicy tidbit for 2024 – word on the street is that we’re getting a new Black Ops game set during the Gulf War, with Treyarch at the helm once again. So, Call of Duty fans, you’ve got a whole lot to look forward to in the coming years!
