2D Metroidvania LUCID Gains Donkey Kong’s Composer David Wise

Apogee Entertainment and Matte Black Studio have announced that David Wise, the veteran composer best known for Donkey Kong Country, will collaborate with their upcoming 2D Metroidvania, LUCID.

Described as “Celestoidvania,” LUCID lets players venture through enchanting landscapes, including shimmering caverns, snow-covered ridges, and barren badlands. The game includes unique gameplay mechanics such as Crystal Arts, which allows players to double jump and dash, enabling access to hidden areas. Players can also switch between special abilities on the fly to unleash powerful attacks against agile enemies and bosses.

David Wise, a renowned composer, is widely recognized for his exceptional work on iconic Nintendo titles such as Donkey Kong Country and Super Smash Bros. Melee. With his remarkable musical talents, Wise has been chosen to contribute his expertise to developing LUCID. This collaboration has sparked enormous expectations for the game’s soundtrack, further intensifying the anticipation surrounding its forthcoming release. The inclusion of Wise’s musical genius undoubtedly adds a layer of excitement and anticipation to the game’s release.

Alongside the announcement of David Wise’s involvement, LUCID has achieved remarkable success on Kickstarter, securing over 200% of its funding goal. With its impressive crowdfunding achievement and the involvement of David Wise, LUCID is poised to make a significant impact in the gaming industry upon its release.

Although no specific release date has been announced, the game will launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam sometime in 2025.
