The grand premiere of Prime Video’s first Amazon Original series from Malaysia That Cover Girl, was a star-studded affair that captivated audiences at Hilton KL yesterday on 17 October 2023. This momentous event was graced and supported by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), underlining its significance in the realm of Malaysian entertainment. 

The evening commenced with a swanky fashion catwalk featuring homegrown influencers and talented members of the show’s cast, setting the tone for an evening of style and sophistication. Moreover, the event was elevated to a soulful crescendo with mesmerizing performances by top Malaysian singers, Ms Marsha Milan and Mr Hazama, who wowed the audience with songs from the enchanting series soundtrack; Nafsi Sufiyya (by Ms Marsha Milan) and Sang Pemilik (by Mr Hazama). To capture the spirit of the evening, the event hashtag, #thatcovergirl, was widely embraced on social media, further enhancing the event’s digital footprint.

The event attracted a diverse audience, including industry players, media, and numerous other fashion, lifestyle, and creative industry luminaries. 

Directors Mr Abid Hussain and Mr Megat Sharizal, as well as members of the main cast such as Ms Siti Saleha, Mr Hisyam Hamid, Ms Alicia Amin, and Mr Aiman Hakim, helmed the press conference for this anticipated series.

The Inspiration behind That Cover Girl:

Mr Abid: 

• Inspiration behind That Cover Girl was based on bringing to life a strong female character. It was developed with the desire to tell a relatable and empowering story about a young Muslim woman navigating her dreams and challenges in the modern world.
• We wanted to provide a representation for this demographic and shed light on their experiences.
• We wanted it to be unique. There is no white and black in this world. Human beings make mistakes and they learn from them. That was the inspiration of this series, and Ms Siti Saleha did a fantastic job playing the role of Sofi.
• Did you envision the writing of the scripts to mirror the cast or did you write the show and then find the right cast?

Ms Yasmin: 

• I have always envisioned Ms Siti Saleha for the role when I was writing her character. She has always been on my mind; she is brilliant and we knew she would channel the character brilliantly.

From the cast: Tell us about your role and what do you think about the series

Ms Siti Saleha: 

• I am Sofi Safwan, she is brilliant in many ways but also so daring. 
• That is the whole reason why I took this role, it is very authentic and it speaks about current issues; fashion, and modesty. 
• To watch Sofi in her journey of self-discovery throughout the series is something I was excited to see through.

Mr Hisyam Hamid:

• In the series, I play Arif, who is Sofi’s loving and supportive husband, especially since we are a celebrity couple and a public figure. I’m there to encourage her pursuit of her dreams and to be a pillar of strength during her journey.
• Preparing for the role involved understanding the dynamics of a loving and understanding husband. 
• As I’m a husband myself, it was interesting to explore how my character balances his role as a husband with Sofi’s aspirations and ambitions.

Ms Alicia Amin:

• As the series unfolds, you get to see a lot of colors. It is almost as if people will realize that everybody is going through something in life, good times and hard times. Plus some people share but some don’t.
• Laila herself, who is Sofi’s best friend and business partner. She’s there to support Sofi in her journey of self-discovery and pursuing her dreams. 

Mr Aiman Hakim:

• As a metaphor, the series is like silk, smooth but full of details and beautiful.

That Cover Girl will be exclusively available in Malaysia and more than 240 territories worldwide starting 19 October 2023. Every episode will be made available on the day of launch.
