Echo Will Be The First Series Under The New Marvel Spotlight Banner
By Alleef Ashaari|November 6, 2023|0 Comment
Marvel Studios’ Echo series on Disney+ will be the first to be under the new Marvel Spotlight banner, which comes complete with a new intro logo scored by Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino. The new sub-category of Marvel is a branding for standalone content that are less connected to the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel Spotlight gets its name from an anthology comic book series originally introduced by Marvel in 1971, which featured new characters that readers didn’t have to fully commit to over several issues.
Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming Brad Winderbaum said (via Marvel):
“Marvel Spotlight gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of Echo, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity.
Just like comics fans didn’t need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic.
Our audience doesn’t need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what’s happening in Maya’s story.”
That’s surprising, considering that the series is essentially a spinoff of 2021’s Hawkeye.
All five episodes of Echo Season 1 will premiere at once, which marks a first for any Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series. Previous series have all premiered new episodes on a weekly basis. There will reportedly be 5 to 6 episodes of Echo.
The series centres around Maya Lopez, a deaf Native American superhero who has the talent to imitate any opponent’s fighting style. Alaqua Cox is playing Maya and was introduced during Hawkeye Season 1. Maya, in the comics, has also run in the circles of Daredevil, Moon Knight and the Avengers. It also stars Zahn McClarnon, Vincent D’Onofrio, Charlie Cox, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning and Graham Greene.
