Square Enix Confirms Mislabel Mistake On Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Physical Discs In Japan

Square Enix has announced that due to a mistake during the manufacturing process, the ‘Play Disc’ and ‘Data Disc’ labels on the two discs in the Japanese physical edition of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth have been printed on the opposite discs.

The mistake is that the disc labelled ‘Play Disc’ contains the contents of the ‘Data Disc’ while the disc labelled ‘Data Disc’ contains the contents of the ‘Play Disc’.

Those who purchased a physical copy of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth in Japan can begin playing by first entering the disc labelled ‘Play Disc’ to install the data, followed by the disc labelled ‘Data Disc’ to actually start playing the game.

It’s been almost four years since Final Fantasy VII Remake when Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches exclusively for the PS5 on 29 February 2024. There is also a free demo of the game currently available on the PlayStation Store.

In the meantime, check out our interviews with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth producer Yosuke Futami and director Naoki Hamaguchi.
