Unicorn Overlord is a strategy RPG that lets you bond with your unique units and companions. You might even get to date and marry them too given the opportunity.

Unicorn Overlord: Understanding How Relationships Work

Romances and marriages with your companion of choice come in the form of (a) building Rapport with them and (b) performing the Rite of Covenant.

Late in the game, your main character Alain can offer the Ring of Maiden (counterpart to his Ring of Unicorn) to a character for them to perform the Rite of Covenant (the marriage system). You can only use this on characters Alain has max Rapport with.

Unicorn Overlord: How To Build Rapport

Rapport can be built with a specific character by the following methods:

Fighting Together In Combat

Characters in the same unit build Rapport with each other after every battle, whether they won or lost. With enough Renown, you can upgrade a unit’s size, allowing you to build Rapport between up to 5 characters at once.

Share Meals in the Tavern

Probably the best and fastest way to earn Rapport with your character of choice, especially late in the game where you already have a good amount of gold from sidequests and grinding. Head to a Tavern, then pick a meal of your choice, then watch the Rapport meter increase.

Gift Your Waifu/Husbando Stationed At Outposts

Give Gifts to characters you’ve stationed as guards at Towns or Forts to build Rapport between them and Alain. Pick the right gift for a specific character to raise their Rapport higher than usual.

What Rapport Does

Unlocks Rapport Conversations

You can unlock conversations with specific characters at certain locations after their Rapport meter is at a high level. You can initiate them at the overworld as they’re marked on the map.

Give Bonus Stats

Pairing units up with high Rapport means big bonus stats boost.

Enables Rite of Covenant

Probably the big reason why you want to max out a Rapport with your favourite waifu/husbando in the game. Characters who have maximized Rapport with Alain can be chosen to be Alain’s partner in the Rite of Covenant and be given the Ring of Maiden. Note that you can marry either a male or female character of your choosing.
