Starfield: Best Traits To Start Off With

When you’re creating your character in Starfield, you’ve got the option to choose up to three nifty traits. These aren’t mandatory, but some of them can really spice up your journey among the stars. These traits can open up new interactions and add some extra oomph to your playthrough. So, let’s dive into the cream of the crop when it comes to Starfield traits!

Empath

  • Effect: Doing Actions that your companion likes will make you increase your combat stats. While doing Actions they hate will do the opposite.

If you’re planning on having some company on your space adventures (and who wouldn’t?), Empath is a top-notch choice. Companions usually dig friendly, nice-guy actions, which means you’ll get a combat boost if you play nice. And if you ever slip up and do something they’re not into, no worries, just load a previous save.

Extrovert

  • Effect: You’ll conserve oxygen when follower is accompanying you, but it’ll drain faster when you go solo.

Extrovert keeps your oxygen tank happy as long as you’ve got a human buddy with you. Like Empath, this one’s a win if you’re rolling with a friend. And if you’ve also got Empath, well, that’s a double dose of companion-centric goodness.

Hero Worshipped

  • Effect: The Adoring Fan won’t stop yammering at you and might even join your crew to give you gifts.

The Adoring Fan is back from the Oblivion days, and he’s as annoying as ever. He’ll show up early in the campaign when you hit New Atlantis. While he won’t be as interactive as your Constellation buddies like Sarah or Andreja, you can stick him on outpost duty. And if his jabbering gets on your nerves, just say no to his offer.

Faction Allegiance Traits

These three traits are all about giving you extra dialogue options and sweeter rewards when you’re working for the Freestar Collective, Ryujin Industries, or United Colonies. But watch out, committing crimes in their territories will get you a bigger bounty on your head.

You’re not obligated to pick these, but they do add some role-playing spice to your adventure. Just remember, you can only pick one faction allegiance trait.

Religion Traits: Raised Enlightened, Raised Universal, or Serpent’s Embrace These traits unlock new dialogue options when you’re chatting with NPCs from the House of the Enlightened, Sanctum Universum, or the Great Serpent/Va’ruun religions. Like the faction traits, you can only choose one, and they have some unique quirks:

  • Raised Enlightened and Raised Universal to create special chests in their worship spots in New Atlantis.
  • Serpent’s Embrace boosts your health and oxygen after a grav jump, but it comes with the catch that you need to keep jumping around to keep those stats up.
    • As of our playthrough, we’re unsure whether there are any epic quests tied to this religious faction, and the Great Serpent/Va’ruun worshipers are usually hostile foes.
  • If you’re feeling rebellious, you might find an option to ditch your religious beliefs and dump the trait entirely.

And there you have it, our picks for the coolest traits in Starfield. Be sure to check out the rest of our guides such as the most efficient way to earn credits and our review!
