HBO’s Dune Prophecy Series Adds Famous Indian Actress, Tabu
Tabu joins the cast of the Max Original drama series Dune: Prophecy, recurring as Sister Francesca.
Strong, intelligent, and alluring, Sister Francesca leaves a lasting impression in her wake. Once a great love of the Emperor, her return to the palace strains the balance of power in the capital.
Set within the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Dune: Prophecy is inspired by the novel Sisterhood Of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
Tabu is one of the biggest stars in India. She has won the National Film Award for Best Actress twice and received eight Filmfare Awards, including a record four Critics Awards for Best Actress. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the government of India which is the highest honor in the country; it is akin to being knighted. Tabu’s international credits include the critically acclaimed BBC miniseries A Suitable Boy, Ang Lee’s Life of Pi for Fox 2000, and The Namesake for Fox Searchlight. She can be seen in the internationally successful Khufiya for Netflix. Khufiya screened at this year’s Indian Film Festival of LA (IFFLA); she was also previously honored at the festival for her film Andhadhun. Tabu is repped by Neon Kite and United Agents.
Previously announced cast include Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Johdi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, and Shalom Brune-Franklin.
Alison Schapker serves as showrunner and executive producer. Diane Ademu-John co-developed the series and serves as executive producer. Anna Foerster executive produced and directed multiple episodes including the first. Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, John Cameron, Matthew King, Scott Z. Burns, and Jon Spaihts executive produce with New York Times bestselling author Brian Herbert, along with Byron Merritt and Kim Herbert as executive producers for the Frank Herbert estate. New York Times bestselling author Kevin J. Anderson serves as co-producer.
The series is co-produced by Max and Legendary Television with Legendary also producing the film franchise that has released two installments to critical acclaim, the first of which garnered six Academy Awards®.

At the time of writing, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part Two has grossed a whopping US$710.47 million globally. It is now the highest-grossing movie of 2024 so far.
Dune Part Two stars Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson joined by fellow returning Dune Part One cast members Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Stephen McKinley Henderson, as well as new additions Austin Butler, Tim Blake Nelson, Florence Pugh, Souheila Yacoub, and Léa Seydoux.
Dune Part Two explores “the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavours to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
