Malaysia’s Budget 2025 Allocates Funds For Esports & Digital Content

Earlier today, the Malaysian Prime Minister presented the National Budget 2025 plans. This includes funds for the development of esports and digital content in Malaysia.

As part of Budget 2025, the Malaysian government will allocate:

  • RM20 million for esports.
  • RM65 million for the Digital Content Fund.
  • RM40 million for the film industry via FIMI (Film In Malaysia Incentive).
  • RM30 million for young creatives making digital content.

That’s more or less similar to last year’s allocation. Last year as part of Budget 2024, the Malaysian government allocated RM30 million towards the gaming and esports circuit for this year (2024). An additional RM60 million was allocated to the Digital Content Fund, dedicated to promoting local IPs that celebrate Malaysian culture and content.

This is all great and good, but we still need more transparency and details on what exactly the funds will be allocated towards. That being said, we hope that the government will continue to support not only esports and digital content but also the growing games industry in Malaysia.

For instance, we even have legendary figures like Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata now helping to boost the games industry in Malaysia.
