Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Guide: Tips & Tricks For New Heroes

Developed by Square Enix, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. In the meantime, check out our full review of the game by heading over here.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is a reimagining and remake of the classic and legendary JRPG. Even heroes need to start somewhere, right? So, to help all the budding heroes-to-be out there, here are some tips and tricks to make your adventure go more smoothly:

Always Check And Open Every Pot Without Lids, Bookshelves, Drawers, Pouches On Walls, Cupboards And Barrels (Also, Go Down Every Well)

This may seem like an obvious thing to do, especially for veteran Dragon Quest players. However, new players might just ignore all of the objects stated above and go on their adventure oblivious of all the goodies that they can find.

Obviously, the items and rewards you get from all of the objects stated above won’t be as priceless or rewarding as treasure chests, but they still add up. Plus, Mini Medals are hidden in all those objects stated above, so it’s always worth checking and clicking on when you find any of them while exploring. It’s like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get.

Also, go down every well.

Return To Your Childhood Home In Aliahan To Sleep And Recover Health/MP For Free

When you first start embarking on your adventure, money is a precious resource. When you need to recover health and MP at inns, you’ll need to spend money. In order to save money earlier on in your adventure, return to your childhood home (where the story began and where the protagonist’s mother and grandfather still live) to get a free night’s sleep, recovering your health and MP for free.

If you can’t find it, your childhood house is situated at the bottom left of the town of Aliahan.

Nose For Treasure (Thief) Helps You Find Undiscovered Treasure Chests

If you have a Thief in your party, they can learn the Nose For Treasure early on. This ability doesn’t cost any MP, and you can use it at any time outside of battle in dungeons to find out exactly how many undiscovered treasure chests are left.

Always Keep At Least One Monster Wrangler In Your Party

The Monster Wrangler class is a brand new class introduced exclusively in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake. I recommend having at least one Monster Wrangler in your party because they are essential to making the most of the new Monster Arena and monster-collecting mechanics. You can’t collect or recruit certain monsters without having a Monster Wrangler in your party, so to save time and make it easier, it’s always best to have one in your party at all times. Plus, they’re a pretty versatile class, so they can both heal and deal damage.

Change Classes And Appearances Of Your Party Members At Alltrade Abbey

Did you know that once you create your party member characters, you will eventually have the option to change their classes and appearances. Unfortunately, you can’t change the class of your protagonist (he will always be a Hero class), and when you change a character’s class, they revert back to level 1 (but retain all of their learnt skills and abilities). That being said, there are pros and cons to changing classes (they can become more versatile and learn more skills/abilities) and their stats will eventually become better once they start levelling up again.

You Can Upgrade Your Priests And Mages Into Sages

Besides changing classes and appearances, there’s one more thing you can do at the Alltrade Abbey that’s easy to forget. Once your Priest or Mage reaches a certain level, they can be upgraded into Sages, one of the most powerful classes in the game that essentially combines the offensiveness of a Mage and the healing powers of a Priest.
