More Layoffs Hit Xbox & Microsoft Divisions
A Business Insider report claims that Microsoft has once again wielded the axe, trimming down its workforce across multiple departments, including gaming, security, and sales. While the tech giant is keeping mum on the exact numbers, reports suggest this latest round of layoffs is a minor affair—separate from another round of job cuts just last week.
In true corporate fashion, a spokesperson described the layoffs as “small in number” but avoided giving a precise figure. According to CNBC, those earlier cuts impacted less than 1% of Microsoft’s 228,000-strong workforce as of June 2024.
And while most companies would just call it “downsizing” or “budget adjustments,” Microsoft prefers to put a performance-based spin on things. “At Microsoft, we focus on high-performance talent,” a spokesperson explained, adding that the company remains committed to growth and development—at least for those who hit the mark. As for those who don’t? Well, let’s just say the “appropriate action” has been taken.
So, while these cuts may not shake the foundations of Redmond, it’s clear that even the mighty Xbox maker is not immune to a bit of belt-tightening.
