Assassin’s Creed Shadows Won’t Punish You For Your Protagonist Pick

If you were worried about being forced to juggle between Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ two protagonists like a stressed-out parent with twins, don’t be. Creative director Jonathan Dumont says you can pick your favourite and roll with them—no FOMO necessary.

The game offers two distinct playstyles: Yasuke, the hulking samurai who solves problems by turning them into fine dust, and Naoe, the swift ninja who prefers a more subtle (and far less loud) approach. While players can switch between them at will, Dumont reassures that sticking to just one won’t lock you out of major content.

This comes from an interview with Screen Rant where Dumont claims:

“I don’t think you’re missing out on things too much. I think it’s more on your preference to [say] ‘okay, I’ll see how the game will adapt a little bit to the character if you choose one over the other”

In other words, whether you prefer the art of stealth or the thrill of a full-frontal assault, the game won’t punish you for committing to one playstyle. That said, Dumont himself enjoys swapping characters every few hours—stealthily clearing a camp before deciding it’s time to let Yasuke go full-wrecking ball.

Originally set to launch last November, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was first pushed to 14 February, then delayed again to 20 March. Ubisoft claims the extra time will help polish the game and incorporate player feedback—because nothing says “finely tuned experience” like two delays in a row.
