Sega’s Outrun Is Getting A Live Adaptation From This Explosive Director

Video game movie adaptations are a dime a dozen, with films like the Sonic trilogy, Detective Pikachu, and this year’s A Minecraft Movie making gangbusters for their respective parent companies. Universal plans to add its own video game adaptation to the mix with Sega’s OutRun series.

According to Sega, Universal Studios is making a a live-adaptation of the game with Michael Bay as director and Sydney Sweeney to produce, alongside Jayson Rothwell on script duties. The production is handled by Platinum Dunes. On the Sega front, Toru Nakahara and Shuji Utsumi will oversee the project.

OutRun is a classic Sega arcade racing game franchise featuring killer tracks, a tropical and bright-sunny vibe, and simple gameplay. The last Outrun game was Outrun Online Arcade back in 2009; wow! At the very least, Sega should bring back singer Donna Burke to do the key vocal music for the upcoming film.
