After 19 Years, The First Gears Of War Will Be Out On PlayStation Platforms
For the first time in years, one of Xbox’s most exclusive third-person shooter is going over to the other side.
And by other side, I mean the PlayStation. Publisher Xbox Game Studios and developers The Coalition, Sumo Digital, and Disbelief have announced Gears of War: Reloaded for PlayStation 5, as well as Xbox Series/Xbox Game Pass and PC.
Gears of War: Reloaded is a remaster of the first game featuring 4K resolution, 120 frames per second support, and cross-play multiplayer options. It’ll be out in 26 August for US$39.99. As a bonus, any player who owns Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will get a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded. So basically the only people paying full price for Gears of War: Reloaded will be PlayStation 5 owners.
Gears of War: Reloaded Features & Performance Upgrades
- 4K resolution
- 60 frames per second in Campaign
- 120 frames per second in Multiplayer
- High Dynamic Range (HDR)
- Dolby Vision and 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos
- 7.1.4 3D Spatial Audio
- Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)

The first Gears of War was very monumental in third-person shooter history: it introduced the Roadie Run, multiplayer modes aplenty, and the first-ever gun-chainsaw hybrid the Lancer Assault Rifle, which is arguably the most iconic weapon next to the BFG-9000 and The Needler. PlayStation gamers will get to experience the 2006 classic with revamped graphics and better multiplayer modes picked up from Gears of War 2 and onward.
