Apex Legends Devs Apologize for Punishing Early Leavers
By Syazwan Bahri|April 9, 2019|0 Comment
Imagine you’re playing Apex Legends, and a teammate dies. You’ll probably see the person exiting to the lobby even though you could still revive the person. It’s a common occurrence in a battle royale, and a frustrating one too.
So Respawn has been working on a feature that punishes players for leaving early, and with the recent patch, Update 1.1, it focused on small bits such as bug fixes and stability issues. The biggest change is that you now can invite squad members from their last game to party up again via the lobby.
Another noticeable change is that Apex Legends had a leaver’s penalty in place now, and it wasn’t listed in the release notes. The penalty puts a five-minute cooldown on players who drop out early three consecutive times.
Quitting one more time after that five-minute ban would increase the penalty to 10 minutes.
The devs over at Respawn has apologised for accidentally pushing the penalty in and they have removed it. So far, they don’t have a predicted timeframe in which the feature will go live or if they will go live at all.
This penalty seems like a great way to discourage players who quit early simply when they’re downed rather than waiting for their teammates to revive them. I hope the penalty system gets polished and implemented smoothly.
