SEA Games Showcase Is Brewing Something Big—& It’s Not Just Coffee
Right, picture this: you’re gearing up for Summer Game Fest expecting the usual suspects—some grizzled post-apocalyptic guy with a gun, maybe a reboot no one asked for—and bam, you’re hit with a spicy blend of Southeast Asian game dev talent hotter than your morning kopi o’.
Making its global debut this 3:00 AM (GMT+8), 8 June, the Southeast Asian Games Showcase is about to drop more than 40 titles like a Genshin banner with actual variety. It’s not just some side-show either—it’s headlining with the big boys, streamed via their official YouTube channel. And honestly, if this event had a catchphrase, it’d be: “Come for the coffee, stay for the cats and cultural charm.”

Confirmed to make an appearance are two standout titles:
- Coffee Talk Tokyo – Think of it as Starbucks meets Studio Ghibli, where humans and yokai (yes, literal Japanese folklore creatures) sit down for lattes and late-night emotional unloading. Developed jointly by devs from Indonesia and Japan, it’s the next cosy chapter of the beloved brewmaster visual novel.
- Cat Quest III – Because who needs realism when you can be a sword-wielding feline sailing across a cartoon archipelago?
And that’s just the froth on top. Most of the games are still under wraps, likely so they can dramatically pull the curtain back mid-show like some kind of indie E3 boss battle.
But beyond the games, this showcase isn’t just flexing for fun. According to co-founder Nissie Arcega, it’s the first time this showcase has reached global eyeballs, finally letting Southeast Asia throw its controller into the global indie dev ring.
“It’s an honour to be representing such a talented region, and to really demonstrate what Southeast Asia can add to the wider games ecosystem.”
– Nissie Arcega, Co-Founder of Southeast Asian Games Showcase
And because global community is the buzzword of the month, the SEA showcase is also joining forces with the Latin American Games Showcase and the Women-Led Games Showcase to drop a Steam bundle from 6–13 June. It’s aptly called the Summer Game Showcase Friends Bundle—think of it as the Avengers of global indie games, minus the billion-dollar budget.
So, while the rest of the gaming world is busy with their annual FPS sequel #43, maybe tune in for something a little more flavourful—from the folks who know how to mix heart, heritage, and hex code.
