Netflix’s The Witcher Showrunner Has Plans For Seven Seasons

Earlier this week, we received not only a brand new trailer for Netflix’s The Witcher but also the release date for the highly-anticipated series. Now we know even more details about the upcoming adaptation of the popular novels by Andrzej Sapkowski.

In an interview with SFX magazine issue 320 (via PCGamesN), The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich revealed that she actually already has a whopping seven seasons planned, despite the fact that Netflix has yet to renew the series beyond its first season.

She felt that it was vital to set up what the characters will eventually grow into, saying:

“I’ve [mapped out stories] for seven seasons.

Right now it’s just about, ‘how do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?’

The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to.

I can’t promise you that they’re very much alive.”

Planning seven seasons in advance is certainly ambitious, especially for a Netflix series. The streaming giant is notorious for cancelling its shows only several seasons in, and it’s hard to gauge how successful any show is considering that they only release certain data for certain shows like Stranger Things.

It remains to be seen if The Witcher will warrant a second season, let alone seven seasons, especially in the current age of crowded equally-ambitious TV shows. The Witcher is slated to release on 20 December 2019.

In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
