Code Shifter Is A 2D Pixel Beat Em’ Up Crossover From Arc System Works

Arc System Works is the developer behind popular fighting game franchises like Guilty Gear, BlazBlue, and the River City series. What if all those franchise cross over in one explosive 2D pixel art beat em’ up game? That’s Code Shifter in a nutshell.

According to the official website, there will be a whopping 100 characters (or 30 playable characters) to choose from in Code Shifter. However, the premise of the game is actually quite meta in nature.

Players assume the role of a programmer named Stella who whips up a debug program ‘Code Shifter’, which allows her avatar named ‘Sera’ dive into a game in development and fix mysterious bugs that pop up. The story takes place in the development offices of a software company called Awesome Rainbow Corp.

Code Shifter is slated to release for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on 30 January 2020 in Japan. There is no definitive release date for an international release, but the game will support English, Japanese, Korean, and Traditional Chinese language options.

In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
