Singapore Will Be Represented in Overwatch Contenders
By Kenn Leandre|March 19, 2018|0 Comment
Singapore-based, up-and-coming Overwatch team in the SEA region, Chaos Theory will be carrying the hopes of all aspiring Singapore Overwatch pros as they participate in the upcoming Overwatch Contenders Pacific starting this Thursday. They open their campaign against the Korean-heavy Talon esports.
One of the better teams in the region, Chaos Theory became the first pro Overwatch team in Singapore when they were formed last year. Singapore has been one of the more active countries in the SEA region in growing the Overwatch community and have participated in both Overwatch World Cup qualifiers, in 2016 and 2017. So it comes as no surprise that the first SEA-based team participating in the Overwatch Contenders series hails from this tiny island nation as well.
However, in the off chance that they make it to the Overwatch League, they will not be the first Southeast Asians to compete, as the honor goes to Dallas Fuel’s off-tank, Thai-born Pongphop “Mickie” Rattanasangchod.
The Overwatch Contenders is part of the Overwatch League’s Path to Pro program, and serves as a developmental league for aspiring players and teams. There will be seven regions altogether and each region consist of twelve teams. These teams will play against one another across three seasons in a year, followed by a regional playoff stage. For more info, head on over to the Overwatch Contenders official site.
