Devil May Cry Dante VO Might Be In Hot Water With Capcom; Here’s Why
By Alleef Ashaari|January 10, 2021|0 Comment
Last week, Donald Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol while the Congress was in session to verify Joe Biden’s victory in last year’s U.S. elections. After the event, Devil May Cry‘s Dante and Street Fighter‘s Ken voice actor Reuben Langdon shared several videos.
These videos seemed to be comparing the rioters of the U.S. Capitol to the 2020 protests supporting the Black Lives Matter movement. In a tweet several days ago, Langdon apparently called those who criticized the U.S. Capitol rioters to be hypocrites. In another post on the same day, he posted another video containing a quote from Martin Luther King.
Hypocrisy will be their downfall. Watch and learn before you make any knee jerk reactions. https://t.co/O3zoQ1qzwc

Since his posts garnered backlash from the online community, Langdon has since clarified his stance on the matter via a statement to Video Games Chronicle. He said:
“I have never supported the violence in the capital or Trump or his supporters.
I shared no such content.
Please point out where I did and I’d be happy to apologize and take it down.
I am making reference to the double standards of the media, the hypocrisy of it all, and the blatant attack on the US Constitution. The storming of the capital was a disgrace to the USA.
In no way do I or have I ever supported their behavior or any which incites violence or damage to property.
Those responsible will be held accountable by law.
This is about freedom of speech.
And the hypocrisy of the media.â€
In the light of the aforementioned events, Devil May Cry and Street Fighter developer Capcom has also distanced itself from the posts made by Langdon. In a statement to Video Games Chronicle, a company spokesperson said:
“The views expressed by Langdon do not reflect those of Capcom.â€
As of now, it remains to be seen what further actions Capcom will make in regards to Reuben Langdon in the near future. Both Devil May Cry and Street Fighter are two of the company’s biggest franchises, and they wouldn’t want to be associated with someone who has a tarnished reputation.
In other related news, Devil May Cry 5‘s Griffon voice actor Brad Venable recently passed away at the age of 43.
