So Who Is The Most Popular Pokémon In Southeast Asia?

Saying Pokémon is pretty popular game franchise is a huge understatement. You can just show any random person one of the game’s starter creatures; odds are they’ll know it’s from the anime. Or live-action movie starring Ryan Reynold’s voice. Or at least their element.

The monster-battler series and its stable of pocket monsters are iconic as all heck, but which one is the most popular in our region and in the world? Thanks to an infographic from Toy Zone via Google data & analytics, we now know who is the most popular Pokémon in Malaysia, Singapore, and the whole of Southeast Asia.

Here’s the list:

Malaysia – Gyarados

Singapore – Charizard

Indonesia – Mew

Brunei – Eevee

The Philippines – Abra

Thailand – Kangaskhan

Vietnam – Mew

Cambodia – Dragonair

Myanmar – Golem

Notice anything odd about this data? It seems that Toy Zone has collected data based on Generation 1 Pokémons, who are arguably more iconic than the rest of the later generations. Still, it is weird that the infographic omit the other Pokémons from newer generations. And the fact that this was data from 2020.

Still, any information right now that leads to a sweet infographic like this is better than none, since it does become a watercooler chat topic for many offices.

The Toy Zone infographic also listed down the top Pokémon worldwide. Don’t act too shocked at who number 1 is.

  1. Pikachu
  2. Charizard
  3. Onix
  4. Mewtwo
  5. Eevee
  6. Gengar
  7. Mew
  8. Snorlax
  9. Lapras
  10. Gyarados
  11. Bulbasaur
  12. Ditto
  13. Golem
  14. Charmander
  15. Dragonite
  16. Squirtle
  17. Abra
  18. Raichu
  19. Blastoise
  20. Slowpoke
