The Many Deaths Of Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft

To celebrate the live-action Tomb Raider film reboot that will be out later this week, we look back at the many highs and lows of Lara Croft’s demise and death animations. Not since Bubsy have we seen this much care and detail being put in a character’s temporary exit from life.

Disclaimer: these animations can make some people feel squeamish. You were warned, in case the title of this piece didn’t tip you off.

On that note, you animators are pretty twisted people.

Legend Of The Fall (Tomb Raider)

You can’t go wrong with the classics.

Ragdoll Physics In Effect (Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness)

This is the first and last time Kakuchopurei will talk about that crappy Tomb Raider reboot.

The Midas Touch (Tomb Raider Anniversary)

Greed kills, I guess.

Dinosaur Snack (Tomb Raider Anniversary)

I like how the dinosaur flips Lara like a Scooby snack before going om nom nom all over her.

Strangulation (Tomb Raider 2013 reboot)

The one scene that generated a ton of negative buzz and cries of “in-game attempted rape” before the game even came out.

Wolf Chew Toy (Tomb Raider 2013 reboot)

Fun fact: A large wolf can bite down with over 1,200 pounds of pressure.

Rock Crush (Tomb Raider 2013 reboot)

Still very, VERY unsettling up to this day.

Body Piercing  (Tomb Raider 2013 reboot)

Having your neck impaled by a sharp metal pole while you’re going down the rapid river is a pretty bad way to go. The hand-feeling-the-pole motions was the “icing” to this death cake that made Conan O’ Brien go “holy mother of god”.

Got Wood? (Tomb Raider 2013 reboot)

I feel there are WAY too many death animations in the reboots, don’t you think?

Spikes (Rise of the Tomb Raider)

That’s still a very unsettling expression.

Boulder Dashed (Rise of the Tomb Raider)

Bear Chow (Rise of the Tomb Raider)

“Tastes like chicken,” the bear probably said to itself as it finally took revenge against her for all of its cousins she gunned down in cold blood.

Did we miss any other Tomb Raider deaths? Let us know!
