Will There Be Any God of War DLC?

God of War was one of the most critically-acclaimed and beloved games of 2018, with many gamers and publications alike naming it their Game of the Year. Some players (like me) have completed everything the PS4 exclusive has to offer, including the new game plus option. So, the question is will there be any God of War DLC?

The answer is a probably no because God of War game director Cory Barlog said his idea of DLC was deemed “too ambitious” by Sony Santa Monica. In an interview with Kinda Funny, he said: “I had a really fun idea for a DLC that I only regret because I would love to have done that.”

“Too ambitious” was an apt description, since Barlog explained that his God of War DLC idea would have been similar to The Last of Us’ Left Behind or Uncharted The Lost Legacy, both of which were released as standalone games.

“It would [have] ended up being its own thing,” he said. “Rightfully so, everybody said, ‘Dude, this is crazy, this isn’t DLC, this is a little too big.”

It would have been great to see what Barlog’s God of War DLC idea could have been. A new realm to explore, with new enemies and bosses to fight would have been an amazing addition to an already excellent game. The new game plus did introduce new armor sets, but not much else in terms of content.

While this news will surely disappoint gamers who are clamoring for a story expansion, perhaps it’s for the best that they save all the best content for the eventual sequel. What’s next for Kratos and Atreus? We’ll have to wait for quite a while for the answer to that question.

In the meantime, watch the entire Kinda Funny interview with Cory Barlog in the video below.
