[Report] Is From Software Teaming Up With George R.R. Martin For A New Game?

From Software is still riding high on its latest hit title, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but the rumor mill is already churning fast as speculations suggest that the developer is currently working on a new game with Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin.

According to games journalist Liam Robertson and YouTube channel Spawn Wave (via ResetEra), the game will be a fully open-world title where players will be able to visit a variety of different kingdoms and obtain abilities by killing the leaders of those aforementioned kingdoms.

The rumor also claims that the game will be published by Bandai Namco, just like previous From Software titles including the Dark Souls trilogy and Bloodborne. The only exception is Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, which was recently published by Activision instead.

To top it all off, it is speculated that the game will be officially announced at E3 2019 later this year. In my opinion, all of this sounds a bit too farfetched and it’s not like old George doesn’t already have his hands full with other projects like the gazillion Game of Thrones TV spinoffs and a certain highly-anticipated book (*cough* Winds of Winter *cough*).

Let’s take this rumor with a grain of salt, at least until more information comes to light. Then again, Sekiro was definitely one of the biggest unexpected surprises during E3 2018 so I wouldn’t dismiss From Software from doing the same thing at the year’s event.

If the rumor does turn out to be true, then it should be a perfect job for George R.R. Martin. Imagine it, From Software and old George. The last time we had this awesome a pairing in gaming was for the ultimately-canceled P.T. horror title by Konami, Hideo Kojima, and Guillermo Del Toro.

In the meantime, check out my ‘review’ of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice here, or watch the video below for the source of the rumor.

[…] Having said that, the From Software director said that this isn’t the only way to see game design. As stated before, he loves to one day create a game where story is the focal point like Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption 2. This also confirms that the recent Bandai Namco George R.R. Martin collaboration rumour may have some ring of truth to it. […]
