Captain Marvel Opening Weekend Is Better Than Black Panther In Malaysia And Singapore
By Alleef Ashaari|March 14, 2019|1 Comment
Southeast Asia is clearly “Marvel”ing over Captain Marvel, as the latest film has managed to garner one of the best opening weekends in Marvel Studios history in the region. In fact, its opening weekend is even bigger than last year’s Black Panther, though smaller compared to Avengers: Infinity War‘s.
According to statistics provided by Box Office Mojo (via our friends at Aksiz), Captain Marvel grossed a whopping $5.5 and $3.03 million on its opening weekend in Malaysia and Singapore, respectively. That’s roughly equivalent to over RM22 and SGD4.1 million.
In comparison, Black Panther garnered $4.7 and $2.8 million on its opening weekend in Malaysia and Singapore, while Avengers: Infinity War remains on top of the table with $8.3 and $4.6 million, respectively.
These numbers are particularly impressive. I’m sure the upcoming Avengers: Endgame movie will be able to push the opening weekend box office even further through the roof, as it is easily the biggest MCU movie yet.
In the meantime, check out my review for Captain Marvel here, or head on over here for my breakdown of the Avengers: Endgame Super Bowl TV spot.
