E3 2019: Dragon Ball Z Kakarot Looks Like A JRPG Version Of The Budokai Tenkaichi Games
During Microsoft’s Xbox E3 2019 press conference, Bandai Namco unveiled the full title for its highly-anticipated Dragon Ball Z RPG. What was previously announced as Dragon Ball Game Project Z is now officially titled Dragon Ball Z Kakarot.
The trailer for Dragon Ball Z Kakarot showcases several iconic storyline moments from the Dragon Ball manga/Dragon Ball Z anime, including Goku fight against his brother Raditz, Nappa, Vegeta, and up until the moment he turns into a Super Saiyan while fighting Frieza.

While the trailer doesn’t show much in terms of gameplay (it does look like it plays similar to the old Budokai Tenkaichi games), IGN’s hands-on experience with the game and interview with the developers (CyberConnect2 and Bandai Namco) tell us a lot more about the upcoming game.
Here’s what we know about Dragon Ball Z Kakarot so far:
- The most expansive Dragon Ball JRPG experience to date, with recreations of many iconic moments from the source material
- Features JRPG tropes like eating, fishing (using his tail), and side-quests
- One side-quest featured a familiar face in the form of Android 8
- Following Goku’s life mainly during the Dragon Ball Z (probably not going into Dragon Ball Super or any of the mostly non-canon movies)
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot is slated to release for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in early 2020. Check out almost 15 minutes of gameplay in the video below:
