Pokémon Go-Style Stranger Things Mobile Game Coming Next Year

Netflix is teaming up with Finnish games developer Next Games for a Stranger Things mobile game in the vein of Pokémon Go‘s popular location-based gameplay system. Simply titled Stranger Things, it is unique in that the game will be adopting a classic 80s Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic instead of the retro 16-bit style of the upcoming Stranger Things 3: The Game.

According to the press release, Stranger Things will be a free-to-play location-based puzzle RPG game, where players will be able to walk around in the Upside Down dimension and battle the evil creatures within with the help of other players.

Next Games CEO Teemu Huuhtanen said:

“Our core focus will be to deliver on Stranger Things’ rich and intense themes like friendship and supernatural adventure, and translate these into snack-sized entertainment on your mobile device.”

Stranger Things is slated to launch for Android and iOS devices sometime in 2020. More details and information will probably be revealed as we get closer to next year. In the meantime, Stranger Things Season 3 is set to premiere on 4 July 2019 on Netflix.
