Seven-Year-Old Singaporean Becomes The Very Best In Pokémon Tournament

A seven-year-old girl from Singapore has earned herself the title of 2020 Oceania Pokémon VG Junior Champion via Pokémon Sword/Shield for the Switch.

As IGN reported, Simone Lim earned her title after beating last year’s Pokémon Oceania Junior Championship winner Justin Miranda-Radbord, an older opponent. Making her victory all the more impressive was that this was her “first competitive season and her first major tournament after winning in two regional tournaments”.

Lim’s win also caught the eye of esports consultant Rod Breslau. He noted that her achievement and ability to defeat older and more experienced opponents showed that “esports is for everyone”.

The 2020 Pokémon Oceania International Championships was held at Melbourne, Australia. You can watch the almost six-hour-long stream here.
