Valve launches Steam Game Recording in Beta Today

Valve has launched its Steam Game Recording in beta into its digital platform starting today, 27 June 2024. This new built-in system provides players with the tools to record, replay, and share clips easily with friends or other platforms.

Most of the features make it hassle-free when it comes to gameplay records, such as drop and event markers, game mode indicators and highlight viewers. Once done recording, you can send the file to your mobile devices or PC and even export it into MP4 to edit outside of the Steam platform.

What’s more interesting is that this system is also compatible with Steam Deck. Players can record two ways on this console: by pressing a hotkey or by recording automatically when the game starts playing. To customize the recording settings, players are allowed to set specific hard drive space limits. Once these limits are reached, the oldest gameplay will be overwritten to make room for newly recorded content.

It’s worth noting that the feature will only record your game on Steam, not your desktop. You have the choice to select which audio channels are included. The footage is captured directly to your hard drive, providing you with the freedom to decide what should be shared.

For those interested in joining the beta, Valve has provided some simple instructions. To participate, you will first need to navigate to your Steam account settings menu. Once there, navigate to the section titled “Interface” and then select “Beta Participation.” From the available options, select the one that fits to your preference.

If necessary, make sure to update your system before proceeding. After any necessary updates, you can return to your settings menu and locate the section titled “Game Recording.” In this section, you can choose the method you would like to use to record your game sessions.

Visit the official Steam page to find out more.
