Saw Director To Produce New Universal Monster Movie

The Dark Universe may already be dead, but it seems like Universal is going full steam ahead with its plans to remake and reimagine their classic movie monsters like with director-focused standalone stories. This is especially in light of the recent The Invisible Man‘s financial and critical success (check out our review here).

Now, Malaysia-born Saw creator/director James Wan will be producing a new monster movie for Universal, with Supernatural writer Robbie Thompson on script duty.

The horror movie title is unknown as-of-yet, but sources from The Hollywood Reporter claim that it will focus on a group of teen kids who discover that a neighbour is building a monster in his basement.

This new Universal monster movie will be produced under James Wan’s Atomic Monster banner. Meanwhile, The Invisible Man has already garnered US$98.2 million to date, which is impressive considering that it was made on a US$7 million budget.

There are also a bunch of other Universal monster movie remakes in development, including The Bride Of Frankenstein, and others. If they’re all close to the quality of Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man, then bring them on.
