Arknights Beginner & Advanced Guide: How To Tower Defense Like A Pro

What’s the best way to spice up your Flash-animated tower defense game with sci-fi anime tropes? Add in a heaping dose of furry girl power!
That’s pretty much mobile game Arknight’s biggest hook, and they have a ton of girls and ass-kicking women by the dozen. True, the game has male characters and other literal anthropomorphic beasts, but the game skews more towards the opposite sex roster-wise. Regardless, these Operators are great at either sniping baddies from a ledge, guarding chokepoints, jumping into the fray pretty quick with hard-hitting attacks, and casting AoE spells while waylaying enemies with status effects.
But who’s the best one to look out for? Who should you prioritize when a gacha event featuring a bunch of 5 and 6-star units happens? Who should you focus on if your gacha luck is terrible? Here’s our Arknights tier list to sort you out, at least for the latter bit.
Fair warning: just because you have the best high-star units doesn’t mean your game will be easy. Operators in-game have specific tasks depending on the map you’re on. A well-balanced team is essential, meaning you need a good mix of defenders, specialists, snipers, healers, and spellcasters.
Having said that, these selections of Operators will make sure your bases for one area is covered. At least until you find a superior 6-star replacement which may take a while depending on your gachaing luck.
Role: Sniper (Anti-Air)
You get to use her when you’re playing Story Mode in E1. As far as free Operators go, she’s pretty awesome. She’s got great attack boosts that make her valuable in later chapters while also having pretty decent defensive skills. That’s rare for a Sniper class.
The downside? She may be easily acquired, but the reason is that there are better snipers to promote to E2 instead of her. Heck, even a 3-Star Kroos does more damage than her at equal levels. Still, Jessica’s a keeper for the majority of the time even if she’s the butt of many tutorial jokes.
Role: Caster
The poster child of this furryfest is a great default unit to put in any party. She’s one of the better single-target DPS casters in the game. As long as you keep her filled with attack buffs and plan to E2 her, you’ll do fine.
She has good skills, but her second and third skill, Spirit Burst and Chimera respectively, triggers some weird conditions; she gets stunned after performing the former and she retreats after pulling off the latter.
Role: Defender
Batter up! Cuora is a 4-star defender who is still used at the endgame because of her Skill 2’s block 4 and defensive potential. Her Defense Specialist skill goes from 6% to 12% if she’s promoted to E2.
Role: Specialist (Fast Redeploy)
If you want someone on the battlefield super-fast early, Gravel is your cat(?)girl. She even gets a hefty defense buff right after she’s deployed. She’s easy to max potential for even lower DP cost, and she’s perfect fodder for early enemy horde onslaughts while you’re building up deployment points for your expensive meat shield furries.
Just make sure you have other Operators to back her up; she can’t do jack on her own, and she’s pretty useless at the last segments of a battle.
Role: Healer
This midget elf person fills the niche of a Skill-DP-Recovery and Healing Vanguard. Her strength is her speed and efficiency of her DP recovery. She rains DP to the point where she puts a lot of 6-Star Operators to shame. Her downside is that she doesn’t attack when using Skills and isn’t the best when holding back hordes of enemies.
Role: Healer
A single-target Medic with enabled limited multi-target healing is always a good fit in any team; Myrrh slots in just fine in that regard. Her skills Dual Healing, Medic Field, as well as her First Aid Kit talent are essential in keeping your Operators alive.
The problem? She has long skill cooldowns. You may need to place her in early or during the mid-game when you have ample defenders and vanguards.
Role: Sniper
Vermeil excels in multi-targeting situations. Her second Skill Double Shot causes her attacks to hit an additional target while also providing an attack buff. With a decent SP cost and Hunter’s Wisdom talent, she’s pretty good at being on the field for the long term.
She has low HP, so you need to provide her with utility and healing if you want to keep her around.
Role: DPS
As far as mid-Star Vanguards go, Vigna is a keeper. She’s built to kill things as she has one of the highest attack stats of any Vanguard. Both her skills (Attack Up ð± & Hammer-On) just buffs her attack stats further, and her sole talent adds a chance for critical attacks for burst damage.
Her only weakness is tied to her role: all DPS Vanguards can only keep one enemy at bay. Other hordes and units will just bypass her if she’s busy with one. Make sure to back her up with a good Defender or other specialists.
