This Breath Of The Wild-Inspired PlayStation RPG Looks Pretty Good

Last year’s ChinaJoy 2019 revealed Genshin Impact by Chinese developer miHoYo, which incurred the wrath of gamers who considered the game to be a shameless ripoff of the Nintendo Switch’s The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. Now the developer has revealed a lot more about the game, including gameplay details and footage (via PlayStation Blog).

Genshin Impact is an open-world RPG that supports multiplayer and will be released sometime in 2020. The final closed beta test was carried out for three weeks starting from 2 July 2020, which included the PS4, PC versions and mobile versions of the game. This means that cross-platform cooperative multiplayer was featured as well.
Set in the world of Taiwat, a world of fantasy that believes in the gods who control the seven elements, players assume the role of a character called a traveller who is searching in search of his or her twin brothers and sisters who have been taken away by a strange god.
At the beginning of the game, there will be a battle cutscene with a strange god, the aftermath of which players will choose which of the brother or sister will be the main character.
Players can freely roam the world of Taiwat, including climbing up steep cliffs, swimming in rivers and lakes, and spreading “wings of the wind” to glide from high places, so you can reach almost all visible places. Sound familiar?
More party members will join as the story progresses by acquiring “prayers” (gacha) and season rewards. Of these, a party of up to four people can be assembled, but only one can be in battle at a time, though players can switch between them in real-time.
Players attack by hitting the Circle button repeatedly, with unique weapon types such as one-handed swords, large swords, spears, and bows. Each character is also set with one of seven elements: wind, flame, ice, lightning, water, grass, and rock. When two different elements come into contact, a special effect called “elemental reaction” occurs, which can result in different status effects like burning or freezing.
No release date has been announced for Genshin Impact as of yet, but perhaps we’ll learn more during ChinaJoy 2020. In the meantime, check out the gameplay trailer below:
