Warner Bros. Delays Tenet Yet Again, This Time Indefinitely
By Alleef Ashaari|July 21, 2020|0 Comment
Sorry, movie fans. Earlier this month, Warner Bros. delayed Christopher Nolan’s timey-wimey science fiction film Tenet to 12 August 2020. However, the studio has suddenly decided to delay the highly-anticipated movie indefinitely.
According to Variety, Warner Bros. has removed Tenet from its release calendar, especially since it remains uncertain when cinemas in the US will start re-opening amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement, Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich said:
“We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet, Christopher Nolan’s wholly original and mind-blowing feature.
We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that.
Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen.
We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from exhibitors and remain steadfast in our commitment to the theatrical experience around the world.
Unfortunately, the pandemic continues to proliferate, causing us to reevaluate our release dates.â€
It seems like Warner Bros. is still planning to release Tenet sometime in 2020, but who knows when that will be at this point in time. In addition, the studio has also delayed The Conjuring 3 to 4 June 2021 from its previous release date of 11 September 2020.
If the studio is not treating Tenet like a “traditional global day-and-date release”, it might be potentially possible for the movie to release in overseas markets earlier than the US. These include countries like Malaysia, which have already re-opened their cinemas.
