The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia has announced the appointment of Ahmad Izham Omar as executive director of content & creative for its streaming service Disney Plus.

According to Variety, Ahmad’s appointment takes effect immediately, and he will be based in Singapore. He will be responsible for developing and producing original programming, acquiring content, ensuring end-to-end title launch readiness, as well as oversee the production of surround content for major sports and general entertainment programs.

Ahmad Izham Omar is a Malaysian and was previously the CEO of Primeworks Studios, a production company that’s part of Media Prima. He is also an award-winning music producer, arranger, songwriter and musician.

The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific emerging markets regional lead Amit Malhotra said:

“(Omar) joins the team at an important juncture when Disney Plus is expanding its footprint in Southeast Asia, and his strategic vision, breadth of experience and outstanding leadership will be key in steering Disney’s creative engine and delighting subscribers with the magic of our storytelling,”

What does this mean for Disney Plus in Southeast Asia? We might be seeing its launch in more Southeast Asian countries soon. To date, Indonesia is the only Southeast Asian country with official access and regional support for Disney Plus.
