Twitch Apologizes For DMCA Music Takedowns
Since earlier this year, Twitch has experienced a massive takedown of any videos and streams which featured copyrighted music. Many streamers and users lost years’ worth of content, due to copyright strikes by third parties who own the rights to said music.
In a long blog post earlier today, Twitch apologized for its mishandling of the situation and explained, at length, about what exactly DMCA is. The gist of it all is that Twitch doesn’t really have a solution for the issue at hand.
According to Twitch, what Twitch streamers and users should do are two things:
There’s nothing that Twitch can really do to stop your content from being removed and deleted. It’s out of their hands. It remains to be seen how this will affect other streamers and users going forward.
This will only worsen their experience on Twitch, and give them more of a reason to switch on over to YouTube or Facebook Gaming instead. After all, what are alternatives for?
